On January 13, it was learned from the Titanium Dioxide Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the Titanium Dioxide Alliance) that China's total titanium dioxide production will hit a record high in 2024, reaching 4.766 million tons, an increase of 606,000 tons or 14.57% over the previous year.
According to Bi Sheng, Secretary-General of the Titanium Dioxide Alliance Secretariat, in 2024, there will be a total of 42 full-process titanium dioxide production companies with normal production conditions in the industry (excluding post-processing/post-processing companies), and the production of rutile type (including The total output of sulfuric acid process crude products, finished products, and chlorination process products) and anatase titanium dioxide and related products reached 4.766 million tons.
According to statistics, the output of rutile titanium dioxide was 4.051 million tons, accounting for 85.00%, a decrease of 1.54 percentage points from the previous year; the output of anatase titanium dioxide was 560,000 tons, accounting for 11.75%, an increase of 1.64 percentage points from the previous year; The output of non-pigment grade and other types of titanium dioxide was 156,000 tons, accounting for 3.27%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from the previous year.
Bi Sheng pointed out that in 2024, the output of chloride titanium dioxide will be 663,000 tons, a decrease of 29,000 tons or 4.19% from the previous year. This is the first decline in recent years. The output of chloride products accounted for 13.91% of the total output of titanium dioxide, a year-on-year decrease of 2.72 percentage points; it accounted for 16.37% of the output of rutile products, a year-on-year decrease of 2.85 percentage points.
In 2024, among the 40 comparable manufacturers, 10 will have a year-on-year decrease in output, while most of the remaining manufacturers will increase, and some will remain the same. Two of them have stopped production or closed down, but two more companies have entered production. Bi Sheng emphasized that in 2024, the average production capacity utilization rate of the titanium dioxide industry will be 80.64%, which is a low figure.
